On Thursday June 19, BOB Volunteers and friends visited the residents at the Geriatric Hospital at the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre. The volunteer club is a new initiative by The Bank which works in tandem with other Bank efforts such as the BOB Sponsorship Committee to provide community philanthropic support and contribute to national development.
The 60 residents at Sandilands comprised of the blind, the deaf and homeless were treated to a night of Music Therapy by the volunteers and enjoyed beautiful solo renditions of “Great is Thy Faithfulness” by employees Elexiou Baillou and “A Change is Gonna Come” by Sasha Major.
“I was elated to see the joy expressed by the residents from such simple pleasure as singing and even more pleased by the overwhelming support this first initiative received from employees, management and the Bank. We saw the true spirit of BOB manifested”, said committee chairman Curtis Bryan.
This initiative is just the first of many initiatives to be undertaken by the newly formed club for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. Other upcoming outreach projects for the year by the volunteer club include environmental protection and support for youth and the elderly programs.
The committee has pledged its long-term support to the patients at the Geriatric Hospital hoping to share love, kindness and compassion. BOB through the power of its community efforts has come to be known as the Bank with a Big Heart.
