Junkanoo, the major cultural expression of The Bahamas, has been called “One of the Greatest Shows on Earth”. In a show of support for this highly anticipated spectacle, Bank of The Bahamas Limited recently gave sponsorship to some of the most respected Junkanoo groups to assist in their preparation for the upcoming Boxing and New Year’s Day Parades.
It was all smiles at BOB’s Village Road Branch as representatives from the Saxon Superstars, One Family and Roots Community Organizations gathered to receive cheques on behalf of their groups.
Chairman of the Saxons Superstars Toby Austin appreciatively stated that “every dollar counts” when you take into consideration all that is required to get to Bay Street.
Colyn Foulkes, Vice Chairman of One Family, the defending Boxing Day Champions indicated that One Family Warriors have their war faces on and are ready to put on another spectacular performance.
With just one week to Bay, as the Bahamian saying goes “the pressha is tall” and the competition will be stiff. Nevertheless, Chairman Rouschard Martin wants everyone to know that “Roots is coming…” and as the rest of the chant goes “move out the way”.
Robert Cox, BOB’s Corporate Manager for Business Development said the Bank remains committed to the growth of Bahamian culture. “We hope that our contribution will assist these groups in preparation for the greatest show on earth,” he said.
