On Thursday Bahamian Basketball Star Chavano "Buddy" Hield, paid a courtesy call on Bank of The Bahamas Limited. There, the NBA's first round draft pick for the New Orleans Pelicans and ESPN's Male Student Athlete of the Year met with the bank's executives to talk about the upcoming Buddy Hield Invitational, for which the bank is co-sponsoring the MVP scholarship and Trophy, along with organizers MAD Events Presents.
BOB Managing Director Renee Davis congratulated Buddy on being drafted into the NBA and the inspirational award winning senior college performances that led to his selection by the New Orleans Pelicans.
“Personally, I believe in a small two word slogan: Infinite possibilities. There is no such thing as the impossible and you and your mother have demonstrated that Buddy. You give our country hope that even though we may be experiencing very challenging times, God is ever present and once we put Him first, every single thing is possible; and that’s one of the things I love about your story,” Mrs. Davis said.
Hubert Edwards, Chief Business Development Officer told Hield that he has become an icon to Bahamians and persons around the world.
“Your story says to them “if you’re willing to work hard and be disciplined; if you’re willing to use your God given talent, the sky is the limit.” You are now on the Pelicans but your first team is The Bahamas. Bank of The Bahamas belongs to Bahamians so you have, in fact, not only come home to The Bahamas but you have also come home to your bank,” Mr. Edwards said.
Hield expressed his appreciation for the Bank’s support and encouragement.
“Thank you guys for donating. What you did is really special. This is to raise scholarship funds for the kids because, as you know, every kid is not fortunate. This shows that you guys care for the kids and we will let them know where it’s coming from. Thanks for giving the kids an opportunity to better their education. We really appreciate it,” Buddy Hield said.
The 1st Buddy Hield Invitational, a Mad Events Presents production, is set for this Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Kendall Isaacs Gymnasium and will feature the best high school basketball talent from Nassau and Grand Bahama.
